The best thing that has happened to me in this shiny new year is that my parents took me to Ronnie Scott's jazz club in London for my 18th birthday, and I had that martini that Daniel Craig makes up on the spot in the movie Casino Royale... it's not actually that nice...

The best thing to happen this new year is to get home from hospital for a whole weekend to be with my lovely girls and their dad. Just to not have to eat mashed potato as a main meal, to have vegetables that are not mixed frozen veg, to sleep in my own bed. Bliss. (PS your veg pots are brill, but what's happened to mushroom risotto ? Our Tescos doesn't have it. I liked it with pearl barley best but I'm not fussed It's just it's the only pot without chilli and my mouth can't take chilli very well at the moment.)

The best thing for me this year was the discovery, as I wandered around our wreck of a garden after all the snow, to discover that the 200 daffodils I planted last year are starting to poke their heads through the earth! what a marvellous harbinger of spring (and so sorely needed)!!

The best thing for me this year was my weekend away at the Love is a Verb Conference. Although i was working, not only did i manage to form my 'vision statement' for the future, but i made the contacts to make it happen. SO, my vision statement is:
"to be the reflection of Jesus, and to be the body through which the Holy Spirit brings comfort and warmth to strangers in a foreign land, and the broken women of the world."
SO... i'll be off to Calcutta soon to work with the prostitutes in Sonagachi. Wish me luck innocent team! :)

The fact that I successfully didn't drink for 21 days and it didn't hurt much. The pleasure is to be found in the fact that I am not, as it turns out, (definitely at least) a complete wino.
