You might remember us doing Buy One Get One Tree last October where we planted a tree for every big special carton sold.
Well, it was such a roaring success that we're going to be doing it again. There's quite a few exciting new changes this year and we'll be letting you know all about them in a couple of weeks time.
For now, here's an update on what's been happening with the trees you registered last October.
These are just a few of the 10,000 saplings that have been planted so far. They'll be transferred to the soil as soon as the rains allow but as only a third of saplings grow to maturity, we're planting lots of them in order to hit our 164,020 total.
Over 2000 trees have been planted already. They're mainly the teak and neem variety, which thrive in drought prone areas and are brilliant for providing much needed shade.
The neem tree is quite special. It's known as 'nature's pharmacy' for all of it's medicinal properties. and you can read a bit more about it here.
Over 2,300 farmers have signed up for the scheme so far. By agreeing to look after the trees, they will recieve training in sustainable agriculture and an income for the next 10 years.
To grow more trees and help more people like this, keep an eye out in store for our special cartons and kids multipacks.
I'll definitely do the thing this year too!
Happy to see how it's going.

Hey - I love the trees ! I'm feeling quite lucky now, 'cause I happened to be in GB last October, just in time and just long enough to be able to register one tree. Yeah, I know... Hey, it's the small steps that count, right ? ;-)

It's lovely to know that I helped to plant four beautiful trees through my addiction to smoothies! I think this is an excellent scheme and will definitely take part again this year! ;0) xxx

Have you guys seen the Cool Earth project? Instead of paying money to plant new trees, they pay "protection money" for acres of rainforest, paying the locals to look after the trees rather than cut them down. Makes big sense to me...
I know from a marketing perspective it doesn't seem as glamourous, but it's worth looking at. My band plants 5 trees for every booking we get via globaltrees.co.uk, but I'm going to move over to investing in conservation and preservation rather than planting new ones.
Any thoughts on that, innocent peeps? Hi to you all from the dark recesses of the beatcave BTW :)

Thanks for your suggestion Beat Attitude. The reason we've decided to actually grow trees rather than protect existing ones is to provide a sustainable income for the community. After we've given them trees and training, they should be able to make money from them for many years, and as the soil improves in quality they can grow smaller crops too.
And from the glamorous marketing perspective it does sound a bit better on packs.

Since over 50% of all remaining native woodland has been lost in the UK since WW2 and is continuing, maybe try this brill thing over here?

Thanks for your comment, hippychic.
The reason we try to work on projects such as the one in India is that our efforts make a much bigger impact on the people there. We like to give something back to the countries we source our fruit from, and these trees will generate a significant and sustainable income for the local communities there.
We know that the UK's trees need looking after too though, which is why we've teamed up with the Tree Council to support their Walk in the Woods campaign this May.
This is just one of their annual campaigns to educate people about trees and promote their protection.

I have now registered 2 trees but it can't find me in the virtual forest. Am I doing something wrong? I do so love looking at my trees!!

Hi Jules. Have you tried searching the exact email address you used the register each tree?
They should be in there somewhere. Please let us know if you have no luck.
