Turophiles = lovers of cheese, derived from 'tyro', which is greek for cheese, don't you know. Yesterday was the monthly meeting of cheese club here at Fruit Towers. Each month we choose a theme (past favourite - cheeses with funny coatings). After a round of tasting, we vote for our favourite, which gets shortlisted into the annual cheese-off in December. Yesterday's theme was Italian cheeses and we tried Bel Paese (rather like Dairylea), Taleggio, Torta Gorgonzola, Fontina, Pecorino Rosso and Dolcelatte. Taleggio won.
Sounds like great fun. We have Cake and Ale evening every year, it's great. And to be fair to all types of cake it's judged in categories; Best Sponge, Best Chocolate Cake, Best Fruit Cake and Best Decoration (for your novelty cakes). All washed down with some good ol' fashioned real ale of course. As much as I love cheese, surely a cake contest is better :)

Love the blog and the cool website. I look forward to seeing a cake section, so i can reveal my 'top hat' recipe. Although i love cheese, cakes are such an important part of being at innocent, and deserve their own category x
