Bill consults the professionals
When you've had enough of the men's platform synchro diving, archery and other sporting delights, flick over to BBC1 at 8.30pm tonight to watch Panorama. The author Bill Bryson (who's also the President of the Campaign to Protect Rural England (CPRE)) will be taking a cold, hard look at the mess we’re making of our glorious land. Apparently we drop 25 million tonnes of litter each year and spend £650 million trying to clean it up. So Bill and the CPRE launched their ‘Stop the Drop’ campaign on 16th April which we applaud (loudly).
Anyone can get involved. Detailed information is available at www.cpre.org.uk on how we can all help, including emailing your MP or organising a litter pick in your neighbourhood. So watch the show tonight, visit the site and don't make a mess, please.

Really glad the CPRE are doing this. Recently, where I live somebody dumped a load of bedroom furniture by our bins because they could not be bothered to take it to the tip. This looked really unattractive and we had to foot the bill to clear it up. Thank you to CPRE for trying to do something about our littering in this country!

I'm really pleased to see that something is being done about this. I live in the city but I can't bear littering anywhere, especially in the countryside. We have fly-tippers regularly dumping rubbish at the end of our road but there is only so much the council can do. We also own a dog and always clear up after her, it's a shame more can't be done to challenge those that don't. Let's just hope that this campaign will help raise the profile of not dropping litter again as it was very clear when I was growing up!!

Really great to see a bit of joint working. I work for a council but it is so important to raise as much awareness as possible via campaigns like this! The media coverage has a great impact and does far more than councils could do alone!!
well done!

I am so glad that people are waking up to this. The countryside is awash with plastics, burnt out cars, general litter and remains of picnics which people think they don't have to bring home.
The Wombles should take hard line against these litter-bugs!!

Really nice to see awareness being raised. If we all work together like this a bit more & showed consideration for everyone & the environment around us, perhaps headway can at last be made?! Good work!
